Provides good corrosion resistance in enclosed, hard to paint areas
I have previously used Alodine to treat aluminum structural parts for aircraft, both under paint and as the sole surface treatment. I have not observed any corrosion on treated surfaces when inspecting inside wing panels and other enclosed parts. My current usage is immersion treatment of firearms parts. Most services are coated with baked on ceramic were Alodine serves as the final surface preparation. For a few internal surfaces, Alodine is the only treatment. Again, no corrosion has been observed on undamaged Alodined surfaces.
Pros- Ease of use
- Thorough coating by immersion
- Visible conversion coating makes coating damage obvious
Cons- Coating is only moderately durable.
