Airport/Facility Directory - AFD
It looks like a cactus, but it's supposed to be a runway. Not good.
When you're baffled, or find something missing or different since the last time you dropped in to an airport, it could be your Airport/Facility directory is outdated.
We all know the inconvenient truth that these things are ever changing — communications data, weather data sources, airspace, not to mention the constantly emerging special notices. It can be overwhelming to try and keep up with it all. But if you fly into many airports and often, you have to.
Our best advice: Get on it early!
Get the maximum amount of time on and out of your directory. Sure there are other ways to find out the most important details you need, and maybe you can hodgepodge it together every trip. But it's all here in one place; the FAA's final word on the matter, with plenty of extra bits of information you may not have thought to seek out - from the people who monitor sky activity like no other authority.
This is the best time to get your hands on the bi-monthly update of the Airport/Facility directory. We have all seven regions in the contiguous U.S, as well as the Alaska & Pacific, the Supplement, and the Lower 48 directories.
