3M Aerospace Sealant AC-160 Sealant Adhesion Promoter
Using 3M Aerospace Sealant AC-160 sealant adhesion promoter from SkyGeek offers water-based sealant adhesion promotion. This adhesion promoter is effective even on solvent-resistant and difficult-to-bond surfaces. Utilized with a polysulfide sealant, this easy-to-use single-component compound requires no mixing. The process time and beginning adhesion build rate for polysulfide sealant is expedited with this adhesion promoter. This compound can be applied with clean gauze or a brush. AC-160 meets current industry VOC, ODC, and HAP requirements.

Use InstructionsSurface Preparation
For maximum adhesion, clean surfaces with appropriate solvent (reclaimed solvents should not be used) to remove dirt, grease and processing oils just prior to application. Use approved cheesecloth, or equivalent, that is free of oil and soap. Always turn cloth frequently to prevent contamination. Always pour solvent on the cloth to avoid contaminating the solvent supply.
Clean only a small area at a time, quickly wiping it dry with another clean cloth. Turn cloth frequently, before the solvent evaporates, to prevent redeposition of oil, wax or other contaminants.
AC-160 may be applied to solvent-cleaned surfaces with clean gauze or brush. Excess should be wiped off while still wet with clean gauze sponges. The adhesion promoter should be applied very thinly to the surface. The surface should remain a uniform pink color. Dry approximately 15-30 minutes at standard conditions. If sealant is not applied within 24 hours, the panel should be recleaned and the adhesion promoter reapplied.
When purchased to the AMS3100 specifications, the shelf life of AC-160 is six months from date of manufacture, between 40 degrees F and 90 degrees F in the original unopened bottles. Storage at lower temperatures increases shelf life. The adhesion promoter is water based and should not be exposed to freezing conditions. This product should be disposed of when it becomes cloudy.
Health and Safety Precautions
AC-160 adhesion promoter is safe to use and apply when recommended precautions are followed. Before using this product, read and understand the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), which provides information on health, physical and environmental hazards, handling precautions and first aid recommendations. An MSDS is available on request. Avoid overexposure. Obtain medical care in case of extreme overexposure.
