The Artex ME-406 (model 455-6605) is a 406 MHz emergency locator transmitter (ELT) with a single output and whip antenna. In the event of a crash, this ELT will automatically activate and transmit the standard swept tone on the 121.5 MHz frequency. Every 50 seconds for 440 milliseconds an encoded digital message transmits on the 406 MHz transmitter to the Cospas/Sarsat satellite system. These two emergency frequencies both use the same RF output and only needs a single coax cable for connecting to an Artex single input antenna.

Important Notes about the Artex ME-406:
  • Mounting hardware for the ME-406 Series is compatible with previous Artex 406 MHz models, in addition to the ACK, ELT200 Series, Narco ELTs and the Pointer Model 3000 ELT.
  • Current Artex dual-frequency ELT owners can reduce installation costs by re-using the remote cockpit switch and cockpit to ELT wiring harness.
  • Every 406 ELT must be registered by the aircraft owner upon installation and re-registered every 2 years. If there are changes to the owner, contact information or aircraft registration number, it must also be re-registered.
  • The 406 ELT is factory programmed with an identification code. This unique code, the 15-Hex ID, is located on the ELT's front label. The code is used by the Rescue Coordination Center to determine the validity of an emergency, and it is stored in an NOAA database. It's used to contact the owner if the ELT activates. Registration is free and it can be done online on the NOAA website at or
  • This 406 MHz ELT is programmed for U.S. Registered Aircraft. For planes registered in any other country, you must complete a 406 MHz ELT Programming Data Sheet.

Note: It is required that every 406 ELT be registered by the aircraft owner after installation, re-registered every two years, and re-registered if there are any changes to information provided to NOAA in a previous registration, such as telephone numbers, aircraft registration number, change of owner, etc.

Every 406 ELT is programmed at the factory with a unique identification code used by the Rescue Coordination Center to determine if an emergency has actually occurred. This identifier is called the 15-Hex ID. It is located on the front label of the ELT. This unique identifier is stored in a database maintained by NOAA. It can then be accessed to contact the owner in the event of an ELT activation. Registration is free, and can even be done via the Internet on the NOAA website at:, or at

This 406 Mhz ELT is programmed for USA Registered Aircraft. If your plane is registered in any country other than the United States we will need a 406 Mhz ELT Programming Data Sheet completed Click Here to Download
