| | | David Clark X11 Series Control Unit Features
- Fail-Safe Microphone. If batteries are dead
or the unit is turned off, microphone will function when connected to
aircraft intercom.

Shutoff feature disabled. In this mode, the headset will function whenever
the 'ON/OFF' switch is set to 'ON'.
- Auto Shutoff can be enabled via a small
switch located under the batteries
- The LED will flash GREEN (solid GREEN
for Panel mount) or RED when headset is activated in ENC mode
- All features continue to function in auto
shut-off mode under the following conditions
- Headset
is connected to the aircraft intercom OR
- Cell
phone is connected and active
3. Auxiliary Audio
(Interface to cell phone or stereo source)
- Control Unit features a 3.5mm, 4-contact
jack to accept external audio inputs
Note: Always attach Gray connector to the
Control Unit and Black connector to Audio Source.
- A Choice of any of the three provided
custom cords allows interface to standard stereo sources (MP3, IPOD or CD
players) and cell phones.
Note: Volume must be adjusted by external
audio source and is NOT controlled by volume controls on headset.
- Cell phone interface via standard
2.5mm, 3-contact, stereo plug (right angle) OR 2.5mm, 4-contact plug (right
angle). (See cell phone operating instructions to select the appropriate cable
for your phone.) Cell phone audio is supplied to both ear-phones, independent of
stereo/mono select switch on control unit.
4. External Audio
Management
- Aux/stereo audio is muted upon receipt of
comm. audio to ensure integrity and clarity of voice communications. Any
voice on the intercom will cause external audio to mute during the
conversation and approximately 1-2 seconds upon conclusion of the
conversation.
5. Cell Phone
Interface

receipt of Comm. Audio.

outbound audio but cell phone recipient's voice is heard only by the headset
connected to the cell phone.

aircraft intercom. Sidetone may not be (dependent on cell phone
functionality present when using the headset and cell phone when not
attached to the aircraft intercom.
6. X11 Series
headsets are shipped with auto-shutoff in the 'DISABLED' position.
For battery power (X11 Model) operation,
switching the auto-shutoff to the 'ENABLED' position will shut down the control
unit if ENC power is accidentally left 'ON' after flight to prevent battery
power drain.
For permanent panel mount (X11P Model)
operation, the auto-shutoff should be switched to the 'ENABLED' position to
prevent battery power drain after the aircraft power has been turned off.

| | | Proper Fit of the DC X11 The advanced suspension system of the X11 is designed to provide a simple yet comfortable, personalized fit. Proper
fit is also essential to noise attenuation effectiveness.
Put on headset so that the head pad lightly touches the top of the head (Fig. 1). Adjust the suspension for desired fit by sliding the assembly up or down (Fig. 2). To adjust microphone placement, adjust boom up or down and bend the flex boom elbow until the microphone is approximately 1/8" from your lips for clear communication.

| | | Contoured David Clark X11 Ear Seals Ear seals are left/right contoured and ergonomically
designed to fit the shape of the ear. Contoured shape provides snug, comfortable fit. Fabric-faced ear seal surface adds comfort and absorbs perspiration. Ear seals simply slide off and on ridge of inner ear dome. Ear seals can be removed for cleaning with mild soap and water, then
dry thoroughly.
NOTE: Contoured ear seals on the X11 are left/right specific. Therefore, if you rotate the microphone boom 180 degrees to accommodate your preference, it will be necessary to also switch your ear seals from side to side for proper sealing and performance.

| | | Electronic Noise-Canceling (ENC) How it Works.
The X11 headset features dual voice coil Electronic Noise-Canceling (ENC) technology [Patents Pending] designed for pilots of aircraft which generate noise at lower frequencies. ENC technology
uses an electronically produced signal to cancel the
offending noise. Once the ENC is activated from the
X11 control’s on/off switch, low frequency noise is
sensed and an opposing signal of the same sound
level is generated, resulting in the cancellation of
noise before it reaches the ear.
With low frequency noise canceled, you’ll hear
essential communications clearly and with less strain.
Improved audio comfort leads to alert and safer flying.
Fail Safe: An important feature of X11 ENC technology is true "fail-safe" operation. Dual voice coils are electronically independent so that no interruption of communication can result from failure of the ENC system or its power source.

| | | Frequently Asked Questions
- What are the new features of the X11?
There are many but some of the main features include it’s low-force suspension assembly for lightweight comfort, powered by 2 AA Batteries (avg. 30 hrs.) with auto shut-off, Cell Phone/Aux. Music input, super- soft fabric faced contoured gel ear seals, streamlined low-profile vented head pad and a modern design allowing compact storage in a uniquely designed DC Headset Bag.
- I'm experiencing some unwanted noise. What can I do?
The most common cause of this complaint has proven to be improper ear seal positioning. Unlike most other David Clark products, the contoured ear seals on the X11 are left/right specific. Therefore, if you rotate the microphone boom 180 degrees to accommodate your preference, it will be necessary to also switch your ear seals from side to side. This will insure proper sealing and reduce to possibility of unsatisfactory performance.
- How much does the X11 weigh?
The X11 Headset weighs in at just 12 ounces.
The X11 like all David Clark Aviation Headsets comes with a 5 year warranty.
- Is the X11 compatible with passive headsets being used in the same aircraft?
Yes, the X11 is compatible and will not create any degradation in communication.
- What is the noise cancellation performance of the X11?
The X11 has appreciable passive attenuation and exceptional electronic noise cancellation (17-22dB) that has been verified through extensive flight testing in numerous fixed wing aircraft. The X11's performance is also backed by our 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.
- What will happen if I lose battery power?
An important feature of the X11 ENC Technology is it’s true “fail-safe”
operation. Dual voice coils are electronically independent so that no interruption of communication can result from failure of the ENC system or it’s power source.
(Note: Cell Phone/Aux input features will not operate without battery power)
- What spare parts are available for the X11?
Super-Lightweight Head Pad
Soft Fabric-Faced Contoured Gel Ear Seals
M-77 Microphone
Foam Microphone Protector
- How can I adapt the X11 to a Motorola Razr?
You will need to adapt the USB-like connector on the Razr to a 2.5mm jack, then use the David Clark supplied 2.5mm cord to connect it to the headset. There are adapters available from third party vendors at the following links. (Note: Use at your own risk. David Clark Company does not warrant or guarantee these products and will not be responsible for their function or any damage incurred through their use.)
- What direction do I turn the Volume Controls?
Since the boom assembly can rotate 180 degrees, it enables you to plug in without having the cord cross in front of you during the flight... When the headset is on your head and the mic./boom assembly and comm. cord are on your left side (typical pilot position in left seat) you rotate both controls forward to increase volume... If you are seated in the right seat (co-pilot or passenger in right seat) and the mic./boom assembly and comm. cord is on your right side then the opposite applies... Rotate the controls back to increase volume. note: If you switch the boom from side to side, be sure to switch the contoured ear seals at the same time to maintain optimum ENC performance.
- Is the X11 Headset TSO/FAA approved?
The approval process is underway and is expected to be approved during the first quarter of 2007. Please check back for updates.
