I would do it again, but I learned some things about this product that would make me do things differently.
I prepared the surfaces thoroughly, rusted areas neutralized and degreased completely. I have a feeling this stuff would stick anyway, but preparation is the most important step...
I taped off non-painted areas, and this is where I learned how messy this paint really is. It seeped under my 3M masking tape, which should have been the hi-dollar variety for auto painting applications, rather than the blue. Forget using the blue version of tape, or any cheap stuff. This just gets right under it.
This paint also runs and drips like hot syrup, getting everywhere. I was careful, but that first dip with the brush was a little unexpected and I got drops on things that weren't supposed to be even near the paint (like my pants.) So, a good drop cloth is essential.
The fumes were mild asphalt-type, and they persisted for a few hours.
The cure time is very long, a couple of days minimum in 60-deg temps. Any small drips/runs took even longer. The parts that were sitting on something had stuck down and glued to the surface. Bolt threads will need to be protected, but can fairly easily be cleaned if forgotten.
Once cured, the paint is tough and durable, and I can easily believe that it is acid-proof.
You will need at LEAST two coats, because they go on a little thin. Don't over brush, and don't load the brush up too much. Foam brushes worked OK, or disposable type bristles. You will NOT be reusing the brushes!
Pros:Effective. Very effective. Exactly as described on the label. Tough coating with multiple coats if applied as directed.Cons:Messy, runny. Not forgiving if you don't have proper drop cloth coverage!I would recommend this item to a friend.Hard to findBy Bill from Erie,Pa. on February 14, 2011 I have not used this paint yet. I have to wait till Spring or later because I am going to use it on my tractor battery box area. But I can say that it was very hard to find this product. I did some searching on the web and found it here. Take note that the paint is "acid proof" not acid resistant. Thats the reason I bought it. I look forward to testing it out later on.Pros:Acid proof not acid resistant.Cons:So far, nothing.I would recommend this item to a friend.Good application - dries fastBy Tom from Tyler Texas on November 28, 2010 Randolph product was used in rebuild golf cart that had a serious battery acid problem. Replaced all battery box supports then pained inside with the Randolph product. Application to primed metal was easy. Used cheap Lows $0.99 throw away brushes, coverage was good, second coat cleaned up all problems. Product was applied in 50/60 degree temperature and dry time was good. Shipping costs and response time from Sky Geek was excellent.
