One of the most popular headsets in aviation, the Telex Airman ANR 850 Headset is unsurpassed in comfort, clarity and convenience. Weighing in at a mere 4 ounces, the Airman 850 is lightweight and comfortable, even on longer flights. A battery free ANR headset, the Airman 850 is less bulky than its predecessor, the Airman 750, and has larger, softer ear cups that feel cushy and light on your ears. You know how it feels during those flights – the sound of the wind noise lulls you into a stupor and your hearing is mediocre at best. The Telex Airman 850 drastically reduces this wind noise (without batteries!), which serves the double purpose of reducing your fatigue and protecting your hearing. The Airman 850 battery free ANR headset is intended for aircraft that do not require specialized adapters, including Boeing and Airbus. Better than expectedBy Nick from Louisville, KY on September 3, 2012 I bought this AIrman after my Sennheiser kept failing even after being replaced. The Telex has no batteries, so I expected performance to suffer, but I was pleasantly surprised with the noise reduction, albeit more in the mid- to higher ranges and a bit less in the lower ranges. My previous headset was open, with sponge cushions that allowed you to hear conversations in the cockpit. The Telex, despite its smaller size, covers the ears with leather-like material that makes hearing others in the cockpit more difficult. Other than that I like the smaller space it takes up now. The case is not hard but it's flat and less likely to damage. Since the headset gets its power from the mic plug, it will power off when you switch to oxygen mask, not that you'll be using it then. It's comfortable so far, with gentle pressure, but it will be noticeable at the end of the day. The ANR switch is tiny and hard to find at first go, but you can have it ON all the time, so it may not be a problem. All in all, not bad.Pros:Overall size, weight, performance, reliabilityCons:ANR switch position, cable qualityI would recommend this item to a friend.Telex 850By Kush Agarwal on April 10, 2009 Pretty good product, used it in ATR's for a while-and significant Noise cancellation as compared to the standard headsets we had onboard. Now using them on A320, and am pretty happy with the performance, ecpsecially the ANR feature without batteries. Highly recommended.Telex 850By Mike S on November 17, 2008 Pretty good unit overall, primarily in size and no requirement for batteries. However, in a 737 while it does an ok job of noise reduction, it is still louder than I thought it would be.
